Thankfulness
Happy Thanksgiving!
As the stores push the Friday sales up several hours and start at midnight or even 10pm on Thanksgiving Day, we are tempted more and more to skip right past thankfulness and the Thanksgiving holiday and jump right to the market-driven accumulation and greed of the Christmas shopping season. But, we need to stop and be thankful. To give thanks to God for who He is–our Creator and Savior. To give thanks to God for what he’s done–for His grace and for the cross. To give thanks to God for His victory–for His resurrection and our eternity.
Last year at this time, I posted this little video of some church members sharing their thanks to God. Several in this group have left us and gone to be with their Lord during this past year. Yet, their words cry out with truth of what we are truly to be thankful for. Take time to give thanks and praise God not just on a certain Thursday in November, but in each day of our lives.
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and blameless before Him. (Ephesians 1:3-4)
Sometimes we just continue to make the wrong choices. Trouble seems to find us! We tend to keep getting deeper and deeper drawn into the problems and choices we make.
A man named Robert had that problem. It started when he was young. He was only eight years old when his father died, and although he was very bright child, he became more and more of a problem for his mother to handle. When he was 14, she sent him to London for an apprenticeship and a brand new start. But, Robert found trouble there too. He continued down this path of trouble including drinking and gambling addictions and associating with the wrong crowd.
Piano Duet and Online Sheet Music
I’ve been experimenting with the possibility of making some of my arrangements not already in print available for download. Tonight I uploaded a piano duet to a website I’ve been checking out called Score Exchange (www.scoreexchange.com) Score Exchange enables the user to preview music using the Scorch plugin.
Oh The Glory
God’s amazing love. Do you ever stop to think about it? Mankind was separated from God because of our sin. God desired to restore this relationship with his creation so because of this great love, He provided a way through His only Son, Jesus Christ.
All I Have is Christ
I’ve had a particular song running through my mind lately. Before I introduce you to it, think about this for a moment: In the first chapter of Philippians, Paul writes, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil 1:21)
To live is Christ. When all is said and done, I’m sure we all put our lives pretty high on our lists of important things. We might sometimes take it for granted, but good health and simply being alive is something we all value very highly. In one sense, our life is the very most important thing for us here on earth. Without it money, jobs, power, influence, and relationships are all literally nonexistent. Yet Paul writes “To live is Christ.”
Songwriter Jordan Kauflin illuminated this verse for me with his lyric to the song All I Have is Christ. Read the rest of this entry »
Victory in Jesus
If you enjoy sports, I’m sure there are specific games you remember. Games in which the “win” was taken in a unique way. In football, how about the “immaculate reception” where a pass from Terry Bradshaw to Frenchy Fucqua bounced in the air and was snatched by Franco Harris who ran the ball downfield for a Steelers win. Or Roger Staubach’s 50-yard desperate throw to “Mr. Clutch”, Drew Pearson to beat the Minnesota Vikings and coin the phrase “Hail Mary pass”. Read the rest of this entry »
A Little Jazz from Burnsville
This video goes back a few years to 2009. It was the opening of the (at that time) new Performing Arts Center in Burnsville, MN, a southern suburb of Minneapolis. The soprano vocalist is Angie Gislason. Angie and I recorded together on two recordings: “Blood Harmony on the Gospel Ranch” featuring Angie and her brother Billy as well as a Christmas recording Angie and I recorded titled “Christmas at Home.”
Farther Along
Do you ever wonder if God is really in control? Things seem to be so messed up one sometimes is at the point to believe that maybe there really is no God or even if there is, he must not be so all-powerful and all-knowing.
One of the questions atheists often pose to Christians is, “How can a loving God allow so many bad things to happen in this world?” This question is addressed in the Book of Job.
Check out the Music Lessons Pages
I’m still only taking a small load of students, but that doesn’t mean my website doesn’t need a section dedicated to teaching.
The new teaching pages have areas specific for new and existing student registration and communication.
Check it out!
