Home
Think for a moment of all
the meanings of the word "home". Perhaps the first
thing that comes to mind is your own home where you live. This
would include yourself and maybe others. You may have a
spouse, children, or parents living with you. Perhaps you have
a roommate or share a house or apartment with another. Those
with pets often consider them a very important part of their
home. What other things come to mind when you think of home?
As you have found this page
on the World Wide Web, you are probably very familiar with the
connotations of "home" on the computer. We set up
home pages that describe ourselves or things we do. We
configure our computers to automatically connect to a home
page that helps us find all those things we want to do on the
Web. We may have no idea how we have navigated to the page we
have reached, but we can always find our way to familiar
surroundings by clicking on "home".
In baseball, we score
points when we reach home. Our sole purpose is to get to home
plate. Interestingly enough, the umpire signals that we are
safe when we reach home plate.
We celebrate homecomings
with parades and other festivities and focus on homerooms in
our schools. We display colored ribbons and celebrations when
our troops return home.
When we think of home, we
may think of warmth and protection. With warm fireplaces
glowing on a cold snowy night, we huddle as our home protects
us from the cold. When we think of home, we may think of
family and friends. Home is a place with people we love and
care for. Home is a place where we begin our journey through
life. A place where we begin to make little discoveries that
may impact us and shape our futures. We begin our lives at
home and we end them in our eternal home.
The music on this recording
is based on my reflections and understanding of
"home".
