sports victory imageIf you enjoy sports, I'm sure there are specific games you remember. Games in which the "win" was taken in a unique way. In football, how about the "immaculate reception" where a pass from Terry Bradshaw to Frenchy Fucqua bounced in the air and was snatched by Franco Harris who ran the ball downfield for a Steelers win. Or Roger Staubach's 50-yard desperate throw to "Mr. Clutch", Drew Pearson to beat the Minnesota Vikings and coin the phrase "Hail Mary pass". Then there are victories taken in extraordinary circumstances: The Freezer Bowl between the Chargers and the Bengals with a -59 degree wind chill. The Ice Bowl at Lambeau field between the Cowboys and the Packers with a temperature of -13. Every sports fan looks back longingly at a great season for their teams.  Miami Dolphin fans have the claim to fame of being the only NFL team to have a perfect season capped off by a Super Bowl victory in 1972. A small group of their players still gather together each year to celebrate this season when the last unbeaten team loses!

We love victories. Some of us have our own stories of a win playing sports in high school or college. All of us as believers and followers of Jesus Christ have a victory to celebrate.

Verse 1
I heard an old old story
How a Savior came from glory
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me
I heard about His groaning
Of His precious blood's atoning
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory

Chorus 1
O victory in Jesus
My Savior forever
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him
He plunged me to victory
Beneath the cleansing flood

Verse 2
I heard about His healing
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see
And then I cried dear Jesus
Come and heal my broken spirit
And somehow Jesus came and brought
To me the victory

Verse 3
I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea
About the angels singing
And the old redemption story
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory

Do you live a life of victory? Do you live as a champion--not a champion in your own doing, but a champion through Jesus Christ? Celebrate your victory. Celebrate by telling about your victory through Jesus. Celebrate by thanking God for the victory of salvation. Live a life of celebration and regularly take time to remember and celebrate the victory.

1 Corinthians 15:57
